2 lb. hamburger
2 c. chopped onions
3-4 c. chopped celery
1 c. green pepper
2 (10 oz.) cans tomato soup
1 c. Open Pit original Bar-B-Que sauce
1 (14 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
Fry hamburger until juice is gone. Stir in tomato soup, Barbeque Sauce and stewed tomatoes. Add vegetables, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 30 minutes; stir occasionally. For extra tomato flavor add 1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste. Makes enough to feed a small army.

1 squirt lemon
1/8 c. Worcestershire sauce
1/8 c. vinegar

2 lbs. hamburger
1 lg. onion
1/2 lg. bell pepper
2/3 c. catsup
2 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tsp. mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. oatmeal (optional – but it helps to stretch it)
Brown hamburger with onions and peppers. Add other ingredients and simmer for at least 10 minutes. Oatmeal is optional but helps to thicken it and make it go a little farther if unexpected company drops by. Serve in hamburger buns.
Hamburger patties, defrosted if frozen
BBQ sauces
Cheese slices
Bacon slices, cooked
Coat hamburger patties on one side with BBQ sauce, place patties, sauce side down, on hot grill. When natural juices rise to top of patty (about 3 minutes), coat with BBQ sauce and turn. (Only turn patties once, this will insure patties will not dry out.)
Coat cooked side with BBQ sauce. Sprinkle a little salt if desired. Place a slice of cheese on each patty and then 3 half pieces of cooked bacon on top of cheese. Let cheese melt then place cooked hamburger patties on warmed hamburger buns. Serve immediately.
BBQ temp on high, cook approximately 3 minutes on each side.
2 lbs. lean hamburger
4 qts. cold water
2 lg. carrots, diced
1 sm. onion, diced
1 stalk celery, diced
4 sprigs parsley, minced
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. salt
Slowly saute the hamburger in the bottom of a soup kettle. Pour off any fat which may accumulate. Add the water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour. Skim off any froth which may gather during this time. At the end of the hour, add the vegetables, pepper and salt; cook for another 30 minutes.
This is a delicious light soup to use at the beginning of a hearty meal. It can also be made up, frozen and later used as the base for other, richer soups.
